Chicago Downtown engagement session with Rebecca and Charles took us around downtown to a few spots that always work well. We kept it simple and focused on good light, strong architecture, and letting them just be themselves. We photographed at Union Station, around the Board of Trade, and finished on LaSalle Bridge.
It was an easy session — they were relaxed, and everything flowed naturally.
UNION STATION FIRST LOCATION
We started at Union Station. I shoot here often because the space and light give a clean, classic Chicago look without trying too hard. Rebecca and Charles got comfortable in front of the camera pretty quickly, so we didn’t spend time forcing poses — mostly guiding them and capturing real interaction.
Some of my favorite frames came from this part of the session.
BOARD OF TRADE AREA
From there we walked over to the Board of Trade area. This part of downtown has strong lines and depth — great for engagement photos that feel more city-driven. We kept things moving, stopped where the light looked good, and worked through a mix of candid and lightly directed shots.
They were easy to photograph, which always makes a difference.
LASALLE BRIGDE
We wrapped things up on LaSalle Bridge. It gives you the river, skyline, and movement from the city all in one place. By that point they were fully comfortable, so we captured a lot of natural moments without needing to direct much.
It’s always a solid spot to finish a downtown session.
Sessions like this are why I like shooting engagements in Chicago. You can hit multiple strong locations close together and get variety without overcomplicating things.
Rebecca and Charles were great to work with — relaxed, natural, and just enjoying the experience. Looking forward to photographing their wedding.
