A rainy wedding day does not mean that you have to give up beautiful portraits. With the right location, good lighting, and an experienced photography team, indoor wedding photos can look just as beautiful as outdoor photos. THE ROOKERY BUILDING
The Rookery Building is one of the most recognizable indoor wedding photography locations in downtown Chicago.
Its historic architecture, elegant staircase, beautiful glass ceiling, and classic Chicago style make it perfect for couples who want timeless and sophisticated wedding portraits. It works especially well for formal weddings, black-tie celebrations, and couples looking for a luxurious architectural background.
The Rookery is also located close to the Chicago Board of Trade and LaSalle Street. When the weather improves, even for a few minutes, it is possible to step outside and create additional photographs with the city architecture.

CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER

This can be especially helpful when the weather is bad or the wedding timeline is short.
Because the Cultural Center is a public building, there may be visitors, events, or limited access to certain areas. We recommend checking the operating hours and current photography policies before including it in your wedding timeline.
It is best for smaller wedding parties or couple portraits because moving a very large group through the building can take additional time.
GARFIELD PARK CONSERVATORY

It is also a good option during very hot summer days because the building creates plenty of shade.

FOURTH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The courtyard and covered walkways at Fourth Presbyterian Church offer another beautiful rainy-day photography option.
The stone arches, garden, fountain, and historic architecture provide several different backgrounds in one small area. The covered walkway allows us to continue photographing even during light or moderate rain.
The location works especially well for couples getting married at Fourth Presbyterian Church or at one of the nearby Michigan Avenue hotels.
Because it is in a busy part of downtown Chicago, it is best to plan transportation and parking before the wedding day. Couples should also be respectful of church services and other events taking place at the property.

PLAN ENOUGH TIME FOR INDOOR WEDDING PHOTOS
Indoor locations can solve the weather problem, but they still need to fit naturally into the wedding schedule.
Traveling to a location, unloading from a party bus, entering the building, checking in, organizing the wedding party, and walking to the photography area can take time.
For couple portraits at one indoor location, we recommend planning at least 30 to 45 minutes of actual photography time. A large wedding party may require additional time.
When possible, choose a backup location close to your hotel, ceremony, or reception venue. Spending less time driving gives you more time for photographs and more time to enjoy your wedding day.

RAIN CAN CREATE BEAUTIFUL WEDDING PHOTOS
Rain does not always need to be avoided.
When conditions are safe, we can use clear umbrellas, reflections, streetlights, headlights, and city lights to create romantic and creative photographs.
Some of our favorite wedding portraits have been created in difficult weather. Rain can make the streets reflective, add atmosphere, and create a completely different feeling in the photographs.
The most important thing is having a flexible plan and a photography team that knows how to work quickly.
We never want our couples to spend a long time standing outside in uncomfortable weather. Sometimes only five or ten minutes is enough to create a few beautiful outdoor photographs before returning inside.
